Power highlights his major quality that allows him to keep ‘winning’

Will Power driving at Portland

Team Penske has endured a frustrating season in IndyCar as they were left floundering while Alex Palou and Chip Ganassi Racing romped to another championship. Will Power took the team’s first win of the season last time out at Portland and explained what allows him to win races still.

Power has had an incredibly successful career with two IndyCar championships as well as an Indy 500 win in 2018 at The Brickyard. The Australian also holds the record for the most pole positions with 71, a record he broke in 2022, on they way to his second championship.

Despite this success across his career, Power’s victory at Portland was his and Team Penske’s first of 2025. Power has had some tricky races and has only stood on the podium three times this year.

The 44-year-old is without a contract for next year despite being the highest Team Penske driver in the championship standings, ahead of teammates Scott McLaughlin and Josef Newgarden, who sit in P11 and 18th place.

Power said via the official IndyCar website that he still loves racing, and the Australian is adamant he is faster than before in his career.

He said: “I am not slower; I am faster. My toolbox is still big when it comes to understanding the cars, racecraft, all that. I never stop working at it. It’s a passion. I love it. That’s why I’m still winning.

Power: “If you’re waiting to find out whether I’m good enough, just go back to last year”

“I won three races last year. If you’re waiting to find out whether I’m good enough, just go back to last year, and you’ll have your answer.”

Power put together a strong season last year and challenged Palou for the championship, even taking the title battle down to the last race at Nashville Superspeedway before losing out.

There are two races to go at the Milwaukee Mile and at Nashville, but uncertainty still looms over Power’s future. His contract is up at the end of this year, but Power said via Frontstretch that he may need to wait until the season finale to get confirmation on the Australian’s future.

He added: “I think it’ll be Nashville [Superspeedway, the track hosting the final race of the season], maybe it’s during that weekend or after the weekend, I would say I would know more about what I’m doing.”
